Domaine d'Ardhuy Clos des Langres Monopole Rouge

The work of a 100 year old family owned producer with an enviable collection of vineyards in some of the best sites in Burgundy, this year's Red Wine Trophy winner is, in the words of the judges "a real beauty".

It comes from the titular 3.1ha monopole vineyard right on the border between the Cote de Beaune and the Cote de Nuits, between Ladoix-Serrigny and Corgolion. Planted on brown limestone soils at an elevation of 245-255m above sea level, with a gentle slope a south-eastern orientation, the vines have an average age of 55 years.

Aged for upto 18 months in French oak barrels in the family's 17th century cellars it has "an elegant and sophisticated nose of soft, plummy red fruits" the judges said. "The palate really lingers, with very fine tannins. Beautifully balanced  but serious, this is a wine to take your time over, and one that you'd be happy to recommend even at this price".
