The appellation of Saint Joseph runs across a lender area of land measuring 50kms between Chavanay in the north, to Guilherand Granges in the south. The soil is varied with light gneiss or granite shale. Primarily south south-east facing. The name Saint Jospeh was given to this region by the Jesuits of Tournon in the XVIIIth century. It was between 1956 and 1969 that all of the vineyards in this area of the Côtes du Rhône were regrouped and given the AOP Saint Jospeh Appellation. Currently the appellation covers more than 1200ha, and produces close to 40,000hl, with an average return of 36hl/ha.
Our Vin rare comes mainly from vineyards situated on granite terraces. Our blend is made from 100% Syrah grapes. The harvest started after the traditional tasting of the grapes. Fermentation took place at low temperature in order to preserve all aromas. A part of the blend was aged in oak barrels.
The colour is dark red, almost violet. The nose is dominated by black berries (blackcurrant and blackberries) and shows a hint of violet flavours, with roasted notes. The palate is charming with its creamy and full-bodied aromas, and the finish is characterized by its nice fullness.
